Passive Voice
ACTIVE / PASSIVE VOICE. In most English sentences with action verbs, the subject performs the action indicated by the verb. This shows how the subject performs the action of the verb. Because the subject does or "acts on" the verb in a sentence like that, the sentence is said to be in active voice.e.i.
Simple present tense
Active: Married to help his son.
Passive: His son is helped by marriage
Active: Peolpe sees peace in the family as important for spiritual growth
Passive: Peace in the family is seen as important for spiritual growth.
Active: Muslims pray at least five times a day.
Passive: Prayers are carried out by Muslims at least five times a day.
NOW ... Rewrite the sentence below into the Passive Sentence!
1. Indonesia needs many powerful young men.
2. She posts the story every day.
3. The teacher teaches English once a week.
4. We do exercises every day.
5. The professors plant the rice at the top of the building.
Answer:
1. Strong youth need a lot of Indonesia
2. the story post it every day.
3. English teaches the teacher once a week.
4. every day we practice.
5. Rice is planted by professors in the top building.
Simple sentence from the past
He wrote many books.
Many books written by him.
He returned all products.
All products are returned by him.
NOW ... Rewrite the sentence below into the Passive Sentence!
1. The students created the blogs yesterday.
2. The principal told the students to be good students.
3. Many singers sang the song.
4. She typed the letter last night
5. We left the gate open.
Answer:
1. Blogs are made by students today.
2. students tell the principal to be a good student.
3. This song is sung by many singers.
4. The letter was written by him tonight.
5. The open gate is abandoned by us.
